Nicole Mary Kidman was born on June 20, 1967, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Australian parents, Antony Kidman (a biochemist and psychologist) and Janelle Kidman (a nursing educator and women’s rights activist). Although born in the United States, she was raised in Sydney, Australia after her family moved back when she was four. From a young age, she trained in ballet and enrolled in drama schools such as the Australian Theatre for Young People, where her passion for acting developed. Kidman made her screen debut as a teenager in the 1983 Australian holiday film Bush Christmas, followed by BMX Bandits. She gained national attention in Australia with roles in Bangkok Hilton (1989) and the thriller Dead Calm (1989). Her Hollywood breakthrough came with Days of Thunder (1990), where she starred opposite Tom Cruise, whom she later married. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Kidman established herself as one of the most powerful actresses in the world. She took on diverse roles in Far and Away (1992), To Die For (1995), and Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut (1999). In 2001, she gained international acclaim for her performance in Moulin Rouge! and followed it with The Others. In 2002, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for portraying writer Virginia Woolf in The Hours. She continued to star in critically and commercially successful projects including Cold Mountain, The Interpreter, Australia, Rabbit Hole, Lion, Bombshell, The Undoing, and Expats. Beyond acting, she co-founded the production company Blossom Films and produced award-winning shows like Big Little Lies, where she also starred alongside Reese Witherspoon.
